Fisherman missing off NSW mid north coast

A man who went missing on the NSW mid north coast after he failed to return from a rock fishing trip was not wearing a life jacket, Surf Life Saving NSW says.

The 26-year-old's fishing gear and vehicle were found in the early hours of Thursday by his concerned parents who then alerted police.

He'd been fishing at his regular spot at Red Rock, north of Coffs Harbour, on Wednesday afternoon but didn't return home.

Conditions are favourable for the land and sea search that's underway, Surf Life Saving NSW said in a statement.
