Teen charged with murder after man gunned down in suspected gangland shooting in Sydney's west

A teenager has been charged with murder following the daylight shooting of a father-of-two in Sydney's west in what police allege was a gangland hit.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mal Seve was gunned down in his Carinya Street home in Blacktown shortly before midday yesterday.

While police were called and paramedics treated Seve, he died at the scene.

Seve was an alleged member of the Inner West Brotherhood gang. Those close to him have told 9News he was a loving father of two.

A short time after he was shot, police tried to stop a Mazda ute that was spotted leaving the scene.

Footage shows the ute crossing double lines and weaving in and out of traffic, allegedly in an attempt to lose patrol cars hot on their tails.

At one stage, the ute clipped another vehicle on the road, causing it to flip on its roof as the ute drove away.

The police chase ended after the car crashed on Kildare Road.

Despite their attempts to get away, the alleged attackers were stopped and arrested.

"That pursuit lasted approximately five minutes and ended with a short crash, and the pursuit was terminated," Superintendent Brendan Gorman said.

"Police have chased both alleged offenders from the vehicle and arrested them a short time later.

"Both the people in custody and the victim are known to police.

"Public place shootings and all shootings, police take very seriously - it's one of our number one priorities.

"Police will do whatever it takes to end that violence.

"Police were on the scene within seconds.

"Police heard the shots being fired and responded immediately."

The two arrested men were taken to Blacktown Police Station.

Hoani Tewhare, 18, was charged with murder, taking and driving a conveyance without the consent of the owner and engaging in a police pursuit.

Police allege he was behind the wheel.

The other arrested man, 25, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and remained under police supervision.

Detectives returned to the scene today to conduct a thorough search of the home.

They were seen leaving with a number of items.

Investigators have not revealed a motive for the attack.

There have been tributes online for Seve.

"Love you always and forever," a person wrote alongside a photo of them as children.
