Mother robbed, man injured as thieves target pokies win

Two knife wielding thieves left a man injured and made off with thousands of dollars during a daylight robbery in Adelaide

A mother and her disabled children were home in the city's north at the time and say they were targeted after a big win on the pokies.

The owner of the house, Deirdre Galgey, told 9News the incident happened so fast she barely had time to defend herself.

"It all happened so fast, they grabbed my backpack, and as I tried to stop him, they pulled the machete out on me," she said.

That same machete was used to attack a 51-year-old man.

"I jumped up and went to stop him and he just straight off just chopped me ," the man said.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man said Galgey's disabled children inside the house were also targeted.

"The little boy has got autism and they threw him to the ground to get past," he said.

"They are pretty well low lives."

She admits that dream win she scooped two days ago and planned to use to take her kids on holiday will most likely never happen.

"I've never had that amount of money in my life, it could have changed my life," she said.

Galgey also said she and her family are now living in fear, with the perpetrators still on the run.

"You've destroyed my children's safety and really traumatised us all," she said.

A crime scene has been established and police are investigating.
