Brisbane 2032: Plans to move rowing out of south-east Queensland

9News can exclusively reveal the Queensland government is planning to go against the 100-day Olympic review and move a sport out of the state's south-east.

Rowing is set be moved to Rockhampton for Brisbane 2032 despite the review suggesting the events be moved to Penrith in Sydney to save money.

It would also go against the wishes of Rowing Queensland, which wanted the event kept at its venue in the Scenic Rim, west of the Gold Coast.

The body argues it would give the sport a better lasting legacy.

However, the decision is part of a push to spread more events to regional Queensland to improve infrastructure and prevent backlash against the new Victoria Park stadium, which will be announced by the Premier on Tuesday.

The Brisbane Live Arena, the planned location for swimming events, will also be scrapped in favour of a new aquatics venue.

It's most likely to be in Victoria Park, 9News understands, even though the independent review found that option to be too costly.

Insiders told 9News they wanted to create a legacy for swimming.

A new Olympic Village is set for the Brisbane Showgrounds, to be built in partnership with Lendlease.
