Woman in critical condition after being hit by Sydney school bus

A woman is in a critical condition after being struck by a bus in Sydney’s east.

At about 4pm police and emergency services were called to New South Head Road, Double Bay, after a 30-year-old woman was struck by a private school bus which was travelling south-west.

She suffered serious head and chest injuries and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

There were about 10 children on the bus at the time of the crash, aged 10 to 13. They were uninjured.

The driver, a 68-year-old man, was treated on scene for shock.

He will be taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Two lanes have been closed in a city-bound direction as the investigation takes place.

Forensic specialists will examine the scene.

Police from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command will conduct inquiries into the crash.
