‘Intent was to kill’: Woman’s terrifying collision with driver

A man has been charged after a video of a woman knocked off her motorbike by a car went viral, prompting an investigation.

The video, posted by Shivani Chauhan to her Instagram page, showed her riding on the road in the city of Gurugram in India.

Her mounted camera records a white car speeding up and crashing into her from the side, toppling the bike and leaving Chauhan sprawled on the road.

“I have nothing to say, but today I felt unsafe on Gurugram roads,” she wrote.

“People like these aren’t afraid of hitting people and running away.”

The BBC said local police had confirmed that Kalyan Bainsla had been arrested over the incident.

It’s believed he was driving a borrowed car.

Bainsla denied deliberately hitting Chauhan and told Indian outlet Aaj Tak that he had lost control near a u-turn.

He claimed the group Chauhan was riding with had repeatedly overtaken his car and slowed down when in front of him, and that he hadn’t stopped because he was afraid of being attacked.

Chauhan, in a follow-up Instagram post, claimed the car had followed the group for some time before the collision.

The Times of India reported that Bainsla, who allegedly attempted to flee police custody, had been charged with multiple offences including stalking and attempted murder.

“It can be clearly seen that he deliberately hit (Chauhan) from the side after an argument,” Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar told reporters.

“The intent was to kill the victim.”

Chauhan suffered minor injuries but luckily was wearing full protective gear.
