Trump orders release of all government files on aliens after accusing Barack Obama of leaking classified information

US President Donald Trump has vowed to release all government files related to UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
Trump claimed he would order War Secretary Pete Hegseth to release any relevant documents on the topic due to "tremendous interest shown".
"I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters," he said on Truth Social.

The declaration comes after Trump accused former President Barack Obama of sharing classified information about alien life.
Obama made headlines on a podcast last week by claiming aliens were real, though he clarified his remarks later, claiming he had not seen any evidence of any extraterrestrial life.
Despite this, Trump claimed Obama made a "big mistake" with his comments.

"I don't know if they're real or not. I can tell you he gave classified information," Trump said on Air Force One.
"He's not supposed to be doing that."
Trump's daughter-in-law Lara suggested on a New York Post podcast the president was preparing to give a speech on the potential existence of aliens.

This was shot down by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who told reporters the rumour was "news to me".
Trump's comments on Air Force One seemed to reinforce this, as he claimed he had "no real opinion" on the existence of aliens, despite the declaration to release official government files.
In June 2019, a poll conducted by YouGov found that 54 per cent of US adults think it is likely the government knows more than it's telling about UFOs.
