France cuts off Trump's ambassador after he blows off meeting
The French government has cut off the US ambassador after he snubbed a meeting with the foreign minister.
Charles Kushner will no longer be able to directly access French government officials, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said.
Kushner, the father of Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared, had been summoned to the meeting after the US embassy weighed in on the death of a French political activist.

Quentin Deranque, 23, was beaten to death in Lyon by unidentified masked men.
Deranque's death prompted a response from the US State Department.
"Reports, corroborated by the French Minister of the Interior, that Quentin Deranque was killed by left-wing militants, should concern us all.
"Violent radical leftism is on the rise and its role in Quentin Deranque's death demonstrates the threat it poses to public safety.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and expect to see the perpetrators of violence brought to justice."
The French government took umbrage at the statement, viewing it as an inappropriate interjection into a domestic issue.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot summoned Kushner for a meeting overnight.
When Kushner did not turn up, the French government cut him off.
"In light of this apparent failure to grasp the basic requirements of the ambassadorial mission, the minister has requested that he no longer be allowed direct access to members of the French government," a statement read.
Kushner, a real estate billionaire, was jailed in 2005 in a messy witness tampering case.
When Kushner's sister's husband agreed to co-operate with authorities against him, he hired a prostitute to seduce him.
He then sent a surreptitiously filmed video of his brother-in-law with the prostitute to his sister.

Trump issued a full pardon to Kushner in 2020.
Before being nominated to the plum posting in 2024, Kushner had no experience in diplomacy.
The Trump administration has still not nominated an ambassador to Australia.
