US President Barack Obama nails 12-metre chip shot while golfing in Hawaii

US President Barack Obama has shaken off any potential performance anxiety by sinking a 12m golf shot in front of a crowd of reporters in Hawaii.

Mr Obama made the chip shot as about 24 people watched on, and raised his arms in triumph when the ball fell in to the cup.

Spectators cheered at the shot, as Mr Obama celebrated by shaking hands with his golfing buddies.

The scene for the shot was picturesque, with Mr Obama taking to the 18th hole on the Oahu green as the sun set behind the island's mountains.

Mr Obama will spend Christmas and New Year in his home state of Hawaii, with his wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha.
