That's where we'll leave our live blog coverage today.

Donald Trump has cancelled the livestream of an execution, inferred he has serious health issues, and made Islamophobic attacks on a political critic.

Meanwhile, violence continues in the Strait of Hormuz and Ukraine in a way that threatens to raise petrol prices here.

White House billionaire ballroom donors revealed

Adam Vidler

The Washington Post has revealed a list of donors who contributed to Trump’s White House ballroom.

The outlet reported that tech giants Nvidia and Apple, along with the Adelson family and billionaire Charles Ergen, all contributed$US25 million ($36.11 million) each.

Other big donors included Amazon, Microsoft, Comcast, and T-Mobile.

So far, 67 donations above $US10,000 ($14,445) have been received, adding up to $US333 million ($481 million) from private donors.

Trump has repeatedly claimed the ballroom would be entirely paid for by private donors, but it was reported earlier this year that construction costs would top $US600 million ($866 million).

The Post reported that most of the donated money came from companies and people with interests before the federal government.

Trump hints at health issues

Nick Pearson

Donald Trump has made a bizarre confession about his own health at an event at the White House.

The US president was addressing a group of firefighters when he went on a tangent about personal vices.

"If you don’t drink or you don’t take drugs or if you don’t smoke, there’s no problem," Trump said.

"I have other problems, I have some very severe problems. But those are not one of them."

Trump posts Islamophobic attack on Senate candidate from the Oval Office

Adam Vidler

Trump has posted a video from the Oval Office urging voters from Michigan not to vote for Democrat candidate Abdul El-Sayed, invoking Islamophobic talking points and far-right conspiracy theories.

“To the people of Michigan: ‘Mohammed’ El-Sayed is bad news. He’s a Muslim radical, he’s a Muslim Brotherhood member, even though he denies it. All you have to do is look at his past correspondence,” Trump said, repeating his intentional wiping of El-Sayed’s first name.

“And we cannot take a change on having this guy be in the United States Senate. We have somebody who’s great, Mike Rogers.

“He’s all about making America great again, whereas ‘Mohammed’ is about making America terrible like it was just two years ago. We were in the Dark Ages, now we’re in the Golden Age of America, let’s keep it that way.

“Don’t vote for Mohammed El-Sayed. He’s not for us and he hates our country.“

El-Sayed, who has been campaigning on universal healthcare, has attracted a strong following in Michigan, where he’s campaigning for a Senate seat in the upcoming midterm elections.

He would be the US’s first Muslim senator. It bears repeating that fact-checking investigations have found no evidence El-Sayed is part of the Muslim Brotherhood, some branches of which are proscribed terror organisations.

White House press secretary admits failing bar exam

Nick Pearson

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s credentials are coming under increasing scrutiny, following revelations she failed the bar exam.

The White House has repeatedly described Zacharia as an attorney, though it is a crime to practice law without passing a bar exam in her home state of California.

She indicated today she had failed the bar exam because she was distracted by her pending wedding and move to China.

“We just said, ‘I’ll take the bar and see what happens’,” she said.

“The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn’t need the bar in China.“

Earlier this week she was asked when she passed the bar exam, and she replied: “When I moved to China.“

She later said she misheard the question.

Zacharia argued she typically described herself as a lawyer, rather than an attorney.

CNN has noted Zacharia shared social media posts describing her as an attorney at least 15 times in the past two years.

Suspicious envelopes sent to politicians’ offices in US

CNN

US law enforcement agencies are investigating suspicious substances mailed to election offices nationwide and several congressional offices, according to Senate and law enforcement officials.

Election offices in at least seven states received suspicious letters in the mail containing a white powdery substance this week, prompting an investigation from the FBI and US Postal Inspection Service.

On Thursday, the Senate Sergeant at Arms said letters containing “suspicious substances” had also been sent to multiple congressional offices, and those incidents are under investigation by the USPIS, FBI and Capitol Police.

It’s unclear if there is a link between the letters sent to election offices and the congressional offices.

Children killed in US primary school shooting

Three children have reportedly been killed in a shooting at a primary school in Oregon in the US.

According to 911 calls, a man fired into a car before entering Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend and continuing the shooting spree.

At a press conference police said the man had been shot and killed inside the school before officers arrive.

They did not specify the number of victims, but a law enforcement source told CNN three children had been killed.

Police say they had not identified who killed the shooter but that it may have been a “bystander”.

Romania promises ‘reaction’ after ship struck by drone

Adam Vidler

Romania has promised a “reaction” after one of the country’s tankers was struck by a drone in the Black Sea, furthering fears of an expanded Russia-Ukraine war.

The chemical tanker Wine Trader caught fire after the drone attack.

Five people were rescued, but seven are still missing, Associated Press has reported.

Romanian President Nicusor Dan said both the Wine Trader and another vessel the night before were hit by drones, but he did not suggest a country of origin.

“There will be a reaction from the Romanian state,” he said.

Drone attacks on European states or in their economic zones have been on the rise in recent months, with a number of countries including Germany blaming the Kremlin.

Ukraine all out of key missile interceptors

CNN

Ukraine has run out of missiles for the US-made Patriot air defense system, leaving it more vulnerable to Russian ballistic missile attacks, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.

The stark development comes amid an increasingly bitter public feud between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. In recent days, the White House struck a highly criticised deal to import Russian diesel and heaped increasing pressure on Ukraine to halt its strikes on Russia’s oil infrastructure.

Zelensky said he felt betrayed by Trump’s deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has since announced Ukraine would continue striking Russian refineries.

For months, Zelensky has repeatedly warned that Ukraine is running out of the US-made Patriot interceptor missiles, which are one of the few defensive weapons capable of knocking down a ballistic missile.

But the interceptors are both expensive and in short supply globally, as other countries have burned through their stockpiles or sought to shore up their own defense systems amid the war in Iran.

The source told CNN that “almost all the ballistic missiles from the last strike were not intercepted due to lack of the (interceptor) missiles.”

Russian ballistic missiles hit three power plants in Kyiv and targeted energy infrastructure in Kharkiv during that attack overnight into Wednesday morning. Four people in Kyiv were killed and 25 injured on that day.

US clarifies attack on Singapore ship in strait

Adam Vidler

The US military has put out a different version of the account of a Singaporean vessel being struck and sunk in the Strait of Hormuz.

It says the Islamic Revolutionary Gurd Corps claimed the container ship struck a naval mine in the strait.

Videos verified by CNN show Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride sinking after it was struck by unknown projectiles. Supplied

“This is FALSE,” CENTCOM wrote on X.

“The civilian container ship M/V GFS Pride was hit by an IRGC projectile.

“The vessel sank while being towed to shore. Despite the attack, commercial ships continue to flow through the Strait of Hormuz (whose primary routes remain clear of mines), with more than 40 ships moving in the last 24 hours.”
