Hurricane Bertha set to hit UK after flash floods cause widespread power outages

Parts of the United Kingdom are bracing for stormy weather, as Hurricane Bertha moves across the Atlantic.
A weather warning is in place for England, Wales and eastern Scotland with high winds and rain expected.
According to reports, the only tropical hurricane to cross land in the UK was Hurricane Debbie in 1961.
Flash floods hit parts of eastern England yesterday, BBC News reported, causing power outages and forcing the evacuation of residents.
More than 1400 homes were without power.
The storm hit islands in the Caribbean earlier this week and is on its way to the south of England.
Bertha is the second hurricane of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season. Parts of Puerto Rico saw 25mm of rainfall, with some mountainous regions receiving as much as 254mm.
