One of the biggest and perhaps easiest jewel heists in world history took place on October 29, 1964, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Former surf champion Jack "Murph the Surf" Murphy noticed the burglar alarm system was not working, and the windows were left a few centimetres open for ventilation each night.

When Murphy and two accomplices broke in that night, they found the display case alarms weren't working either.

American basketball superstar LeBron James made his debut in the NBA on October 29, 2003, for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The raw 18-year-old was on the end of his team's 106-92 defeat to the Sacramento Kings.

But James went on to become the NBA's career scoring leader and now a four-time Olympic medalist.
