Street fight between former friends ends with hit-and-run

A brawl between former friends in a suburban US street ended dramatically when one of the teens jumped in her car and ran over her rival as she fled.

The women began scrapping in the streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Monday as a dozen of people cheered them on and shouted: "Let them fight."

"It was a fight between two former friends. It ultimately ended with blows being thrown," Sergeant Terry Dixon told the Grand Rapids Press.

One of the girls had her weave ripped out as they grappled and fell upon a car bonnet.

A third girl started landing blows before other bystanders pushed her away as onlookers said: "No jumping."

The brawlers separated as one girl believed to be 19-year-old Jalin Smith-Walker jumped in her car and began to make a three-point turn.

Her antagonist stood in the vehicle's way and threw a large object onto the windscreen.

Smith-Walker then allegedly mowed the teen down before speeding off down the street.

As her former friend sat on the ground stunned bystanders screamed about getting in their cars to chase the woman down.

The other teen, also 19, suffered only a minor injury to her leg and was later released from hospital, police said.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Smith-Walker for the hit-and-run, which would make it her second alleged assault of that nature in less than six months.

In December she was accused of hitting and dragging two security officers behind her car after she allegedly shoplifted from a local mall.

She was arrested a few kilometres from the mall, smiling broadly for her mug shot.
