Prince William and Duchess Kate caught up in Myanmar earthquake

Prince William and Duchess Kate have felt a massive earthquake that struck Myanmar during their tour of neighbouring India.

The earthquake, which measured 6.9 on the Richter scale, was felt in China as well as India with the royal couple reportedly also feeling tremors.

The royals are staying at a lodge near Kaziranga National Park in India's north east, which is 800km from the epicentre of the quake, the London Evening Standard reports.

The officially-accredited royal press corps staying in nearby Guwahati had to be evacuated from their hotel.

The quake struck 396km northwest of Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw at a depth of 134km, according to the US Geological Survey.

Much of Myanmar's outlying provinces have poor communications infrastructure, including the area where the earthquake hit.

However there were no immediate reports of casualties.
