Not-for-profit appeals to public after disabled dog found wandering in backyard

A US not-for-profit has appealed to the public to help find a new carer for a partially blind and almost deaf dog found wandering in a backyard.

In a post to the Susie’s Senior Dogs Facebook account on November 9, the organisation shared an Atlanta shelter’s plea to find a new home for the special-needs dog.

The post has since received more than 4630 likes, 730 comments and 4000 shares.

“Raven was called in as a stray when she was found wandering in someone's backyard for several days,” it reads.

“Raven is very gentle and sweet but bewildered here at the shelter. She is blind and deaf and has no idea where she is.”

The post says 10-year-old Raven has spent her time in the shelter lying in her kennel, staring listlessly at a wall.

While it is unknown whether Raven previously had a family, she has been described as enjoying the attention of her carers.

The shelter claims the elderly pooch has a range of medical issues which excludes her from the shelter’s foster program.

“She's a mess and I know a long shot, but I really hate to see her meet her end here at the shelter,” it said in the post.

“Old age is not a disease. Raven still knows what it's like to feel loved and laying in a shelter need not be her fate.”
