More than a thousand people attend memorial service for Beau Biden

More than a thousand people have attended a memorial service for Beau Biden, a former Delaware Attorney General and the son of US Vice President Joe Biden.

The Iraq war veteran died after a long battle with brain cancer last week, aged 46, and was mourned at the service held in the Delaware Legislative State House in Dover, according to CNN.

The late state official was awarded the Delaware Conspicuous Service Cross during the memorial, granted for heroism and outstanding service.

Mourners lined up to commiserate with the Biden family who shook hands, hugged and cried in front of the casket which was draped in the national flag.

President Barack Obama is expected to present a eulogy at the funeral in Delaware.
