John Macris: Footage of Sydney underworld figure's murder released

Confronting footage of the murder of Sydney identity John Macris has been published by a Greek newspaper.

The CCTV vision shows a man running towards a small black car, firing multiple shots at Macris at point-blank range in Athens last Wednesday evening.

The armed man, dressed in a grey and black jumper and cap, then flees.

Only parts of the dramatic video were published by Kathimerini.

In footage that the newspaper chose not to show, Macris stepped out of the car and tried to escape, but was followed and shot again.

Authorities are now trying to determine who killed Macris and why.

Macris was farewelled yesterday at a funeral in Athens.

His body will be returned to Australia for burial.

Macris leaves behind two children with his wife Viktoria Karida, a Greek TV host.

He had a drug dealing conviction in Australia and owned several nightclubs in Greece.
