The wife and family of underworld figure John Macris have paid their respects at an emotional funeral service in Athens.
Viktoria Karida and father Stelios led the mourners at the Greek Orthodox service in the wealthy Voula district just up the hill from where he was gunned down.
Macris, was getting into his car outside his luxury villa last Wednesday at 8.10pm when he was shot.
No arrests have been made yet by Greek police investigating the 46-year-old’s murder.
Around 150 people were Saint Nektarios Church to farewell the father of two, whose body will be returned to Australia for burial.
Wife Viktoria, a former glamour model and star of a Greek reality TV show titled My Style Rocks, was distraught.
Local newspaper Ta Nea says Macris’ distraught wife is living in fear in Athens and is considering a move to Australia with them.
It quotes her, telling the police: “He wasn’t scared of anything. He hadn’t told us of death threats he had received.’’
“We led a quiet life.”
Greek media has described Macris as a wealthy man, known to police in both Greece and Australia, with the nickname the "Australo".
He had a drug dealing conviction against his name in Australia.
He moved to Greece in 2013 and owned a number of nightclubs in Mykonos.
Macris had been on the way to the opening of a new office space for his security business at the time of the attack.
It is understood he had recently spent several hundred thousand euros to launch it.
