Google boss berated as he admits he doesn't know what he earns

Google's Europe boss has revealed he doesn't know how much he is paid during a ferocious interrogation of the company's financial situation.

British politicians on a committee probing company tax affairs laughed out loud overnight as Matt Brittin, the president of Google’s European, Middle Eastern and African arm, dodged being asked five times how much he earns.

"I don't have a figure," he finally said in response to committee chairwoman Meg Hillier's angry questioning.

She berated him with accusations of not understanding the community anger towards Google's tax bill of $264 million.

"You don't know what you get paid, Mr Britten? Out there taxpayers are very angry. They live in a different world, clearly, if you can't even tell us what you're actually paid" she said.

The Public Accounts Committee is currently investigating a "sweetheart" deal last month that saw Google pay only $264 million to cover 10 years of back taxes, the Daily Mail reports.

Earlier this week it was revealed the company had paid its chief executive $284 million, which is $20 million more than its taxes over a decade.
