Festival fire destroys more than 400 cars

Punters at a music festival in Portugal had to be evacuated as a fire ripped through a carpark on Wednesday, destroying 422 vehicles.

Almost 200 firefighters were sent in the battle the blaze at the Andancas festival in Serra de Sao Mamede, which attracts 40,000 revellers annually, the Portugal News reports.

It took emergency crews just over an hour to contain the fire which is believed to have started in one of the cars before spreading.

It was one of the worst disasters of this type to ever occur in Portugal, Politico reports.

The festival resumed shortly after the fire was extinguished.
