Boy 'tried to use nude shots to extort girl, 14'

A 14-year-old girl was convinced to send a nude picture to a male classmate, 13, who then used the shot to try and extort more nude photos, a lawsuit claims.

The girl became suicidal after the incident with the lawsuit also alleging the classmate then spread her nude Snapchat selfie among his friends. 

The girl, in grade nine at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School in Windsor Terrace, said the classmate had promised her there would be no lasting copy of the nude picture she sent to him via Snapchat in October – as the app automatically deletes messages seconds after they're seen.

But after the girl had sent the image the boy took a screen grab and refused to delete it. 

The lawsuit alleges the boy approached the girl in December and asked for more naked pictures telling her he would "expose" her after she refused to give him any. 

He then "distributed the picture widely," the charges claim. 

She "was informed by friends and strangers alike that they had seen the picture posted publicly on Instagram, received it in text messages, and on Facebook chats," the lawsuit states. 

The image was shared so widely and identified the girl through half her face and her "distinctive hair" that her parents were informed about it by the child of a friend. 

The girl became depressed and suicidal and "was constantly distraught by the reality of others having seen her nude body," the lawsuit reads. 

"[She] was worried each school day because she feared other students had negative opinions of her due to the dissemination of the picture," it goes on. 

The girl is suing for an injunction to stop the boy spreading the picture, the names of the people who have been sent the picture and more than $50,000 damages.
