Boeing 767 bound for quirky camp site towed ashore

A Boeing 767 bound for use in an Irish camping site has finally reached its destination after being painstakingly towed to shore.

Thousands turned out to watch the surreal sight of the decommissioned plane being pulled ashore at the northwestern Irish town of Enniscone, RTE News reports.

The plane will soon house guests and be the centre piece at camp site Quirky Glamping Nights, run by businessman David McGowan.

He bought the plane from Russian airline Transaero for $30,000 last year.

Getting the plane from its original home in Russia to Ireland was said to be a logistical nightmare, with cranes, barges, trucks and boats all needed to complete the job.

"If I don’t land it, I’ll be known as the biggest idiot in the country," Mr McGowan told RTE News.

The camping village is already home to converted trains and old London taxis, with more buses and boats planned for the venture.
