Indonesia's president may skip G20: report

Indonesia's new president may skip the G20 summit in Brisbane and choose to focus on domestic concerns in his early days in the job, according to a report.

Joko Widodo will be inaugurated on October 20, giving his team little time to prepare for a flurry of international summits soon after.

Mr Joko is expected to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' meeting in Beijing on November 10, the ASEAN summit in Myanmar on November 12 and the G20 on November 15.

The Jakarta Post newspaper reports he may miss the G20 and instead focus on his domestic agenda.

"Jokowi is a bit reluctant to go to Brisbane but he also knows very well how important the summit is and also our relationship with Australia," a source told the newspaper.

Mr Joko faces major reform challenges on the domestic front as well as a fractious, opposition-dominated parliament.

Indonesia and Australia signed a code of conduct on intelligence in August, agreeing to put behind them a bitter row over Australia's surveillance of the family and friends of outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
