Jason Donovan fights neighbour's fire wearing his undies

Jason Donovan has proved he's a good neighbour by tackling a fire in his underpants at a house opposite his London home.

The Australian actor and former Neighbours star leapt from his bed to fight the blaze in the exclusive suburb of Notting Hill last month, reports the BBC.

Donovan, 51, lives across the road from the house and noticed the flames from his home.

When firefighters arrived in the early hours of September 22, they found the actor half-naked at the scene fighting the blaze.

London Fire Brigade tweeted after the incident that "everyone needs good neighbours".

"The fire was located in the side passage next to a house and when we arrived a gentleman was tackling the fire using a fire extinguisher," watch manager Thomas Wolfe said.

"We took over from him and quickly dealt with the blaze.  

"It soon transpired that it was Jason Donovan who noticed the fire from his property over the road."

Donovan also took to Twitter to praise the firefighters.

"Thank you to the @LondonFire for getting to the situation so quickly, glad no one was hurt," he wrote.

"This is a good reason to always wear PJ s to bed (in case of emergencies) but much more importantly to have fire extinguishes (sic) at hand in the home."

The fire was believed to have been started by an electrical cabling fault.

Donovan shot to fame as Scott Robinson in the popular soap during the 1980s.
