EXCLUSIVE: We get to see Travel Guides stars Matt and Brett live the high life as they holiday across the globe but they've lifted the lid on their lives outside the show.

The couple revealed what they get up to when they're not travelling and primary school teacher Brett shared exactly what his students think of his TV career.

Brett admitted that travelling all the time can be a "disruption" at school, but with an opportunity that's just too good to pass up he is grateful to have the support of his fellow teachers and students.

"It's all worth it when it's on TV because my boss is a big fan of the show, all the other staff love it," he said.

"The kids and their families have been great. So I've been really lucky that I've had lots of support from everyone."

While Travel Guides has Matt and Brett dancing at Indian weddings and dangling over sky high buildings in New York, when they get back to their Newcastle home it's back to business.

"We come home from Travel Guides and we get straight back to work and we just get into the swing of things," Brett said.

"I go straight back to school and usually school welcomes me back by giving me morning playground duties and I will and truly hit the ground running.

"Then I work really hard to get up to date, to catch up on what I missed out on, and then before you know it, you're back into a routine, and life just gets to be normal again."

"We slot back into our social circle and our family and get back to the people that we've accidentally ignored for five months," Matt laughed.

Matt and Brett have been together for 23 years and while even they admit that's a long time to be with one person, they say travelling with each other so often is a breeze.

"For us it's very easy to spend 24 hours a day with your best friend. That's part of the reason why we love Travel Guides because it gives us that opportunity to spend all of our time together," Brett gushed.

Matt and Brett joined the Travel Guides family in 2020 and explained that because of Covid, they first filmed two seasons of the show before it ever went to air.

The duo had "a bit of time to get [their] heads around what was to come" but when they finally did make it to TV they soon realised just how much Australia loved the show.

The pair are regularly recognised and stopped for selfies and travel tips but they say they're always chuffed to talk to fans of the show.

The duo say fans are often surprised to see they're the same in real life as they are on TV.  Nine

If there's one message that Matt and Brett hear from fans most often, it's that they're pleasantly surprised to find the guides are "exactly what they're like on TV".

"People get a real surprise when they meet us. But with us what you see is what you get."

In 2025, Matt and Brett have already travelled to Spain, Portugal, New York City, New Zealand and Switzerland – with more trips to come!
