Announced today, Solange Knowles' Saint Heron collective will collaborate with Swedish design powerhouse IKEA to explore and create multifunctional objects.

She’s just graced Australia with her gentle-yet-powerful artistic presence for VIVID Festival, and now Solange Knowles (via her multidisciplinary cultural hub, Saint Heron) has announced another cause for celebration: a collaboration with IKEA.

Subtitled 'Objects, Space, Architecture,' Saint Heron will explore “architectural and design objects with multifunctional use."

The partnership aims to bridge the gap between art and design.

Solange shared the news on her own Instagram, saying "we can’t wait."

For those not exactly sure what Saint Heron is, they just released a statement around the IKEA project:

Our brand, founded in 2013 is a multidisciplinary cultural hub with a focus on “building the community that we wish to see exist” through music, visual art, and performance art mediums… Our founder, contemporary artist Solange Knowles and the company’s co-curator artist Armina Mussa have partnered to create original multimedia installations that creatively reflect on intersectional art and culture themes, foster thoughtful fellowship, and push the conversations of our communities to the forefront.

Saint Heron says they’re “excited to continue to push these conversations and boundaries even further with our upcoming collaboration with IKEA.”

"Contemporary art is a huge part of people’s life today," says Marcus Engman, head of design at IKEA Range & Supply. "At IKEA we are curious about the creative space in between architecture, design, art, and music and how that could come alive in the homes of the many people. This is what we want to explore together with Saint Heron."
