Rental properties often throw up some surprising curveballs. But instead of being confronted by rising damp issues or home offices that are more storage cupboard than work space, this property in Oxford, England has one very surprising feature – a seven-meter shark crashing through the roof.

For £3000/month (approx. AUD$4400) you can rent the four-bedroom, three-bathroom "aesthetically pleasing" terrace, which also boasts a large living room and sunroom. But the drawcard here is obviously the enormous fish protruding from the street-facing roof.

Commissioned by the owner of the property in 1986 as a way to put two fingers up to democracy and stand up for creativity, the John Buckley designed sculpture stands tail up and fin splayed, conjuring images of an apocalyptic event in landlocked Oxford.

Not surprisingly, the eye-catching art installation has proven tasty Instagram bait, with amazed passerby snapping pictures in front of the massive shark.
