Room Reveal: Rick and Tayla’s Kids’ Bedroom and Redo Room
Rick and Tayla went in confident, but they failed to wow the judges this week.
This week Rick and Tayla were feeling ready to tackle their Kids Bedroom and their Living Room this week, with Rick saying he felt “quite confident” heading into Room Reveals. But there’s just one issue, they didn’t exactly deliver what the judges were looking for.

Like several other teams this week, Rick and Tayla decided to design a room for an older child, which was not what the judges had asked for.

“I’m a bit confused,” Darren said when he walked in. The judges guessed that the pair had been trying to deliver a tween room, and in doing so, had tried to find a balance between young and old that left the room feeling a bit forgettable.

“Shaynna said it feels a bit unfinished, and some of the styling is odd,” Scotty told the team back at HQ. The judges also couldn’t understand why there were pendant lights hanging directly above a lamp.

“That’s weird, why is there a lamp and a pendant?” Marty asked.

“I think it’s an okay room,” Shaynna said. “They’ve executed it, they’ve finished everything, the bed’s made. But style it, celebrate it, this is the ribbon on the house and I just sort of feel like it’s a bit ‘eh’“.

The judges did find positives with the room, explaining that the couple had successfully designed a tween room, it just needed a bit more oomph.

“In the corner for styling do you want a stool and two little poufs?” Shaynna asked.

A note was left under the mirror explaining that it was being fixed to the wall, but all the judges agreed that they preferred it on the floor. “It’s actually a leaning mirror, that’s why it’s got feet,” Darren laughed.

“I actually love that, I think it’s really, really nice,” Darren added of the feature wall in the room. While the room wasn’t a complete fail, it didn’t wow the judges. But, there was still space for improvement in the redo room.
