Episode 42 recap: Producer threatens to disqualify team after major budget woes come to light
Updated . First published

There are just two weeks to go on The Block 2026, which means everyone is extra exhausted, stressed and cranky.
That’s not fun for them, but what can I say? It does make for interesting TV!
Buckle up. Nine
Open for Inspections have been brutal recently, and this week is no different.
Most of the teams disagree with the judges. Again.
They would’ve given House 2 the win last night, even with their Love Island-style pool flamingo.
It’s Backyard and Garage Week and everyone is jumping over themselves to create “secret weapons” while they still can.
For two teams, this involves a wine cellar and yes, Jolene is frustrated to learn she’s not the only one with the idea.
Robby and Mat say hi!
Maybe this will make her feel better?
House 4’s cellar is causing a big headache! Nine
Block executive producer Julian Cress has popped into House 4 with a dire warning over their budget.
Turns out, they’re running much lower on cash than they thought.
“We’ll disqualify you if you put stuff in that you can’t afford,” he says.
It sends Courtney and Sev into a tizzy, as they go back and forth on whether to cancel their wine cellar altogether.
They make a teary decision to give up that dream, leaving Sev to make an awkward phone call to their supplier to cancel the order.
That decision lasts a couple of hours max, before she decides to push forward with the cellar and instead cut budget from landscaping.
This is frustrating news to landscaper Troy Lovett, who warns this essentially means they will have no cash to pay for labour next week.
It’s a gamble they’re willing to take.
They aren’t the only ones having a bad day.
Rosco is over it and makes that known to literally everyone.
For the first time quite literally ever, House 3 is tracking ahead of their next-door neighbours and have an excavator working in their yard first.
But then the Cursios have words, and suddenly the digger is at House 2 instead, without anyone asking or talking to Rosco.
I quite like angry Ross! Nine
And because it is a day ending in y, Jolene is also butting heads with Wyatt.
His only access to House 2’s courtyard is through their own home or around the side of House 1, so guess how they’ve decided to move concrete around?
“Wyatt, you need to have a conversation with me,” Jolene complains.
But he doesn’t want to because “I don’t want you to say I’ve intimidated you again or something”.
We are all Adrian Cursio right now, right? Nine
Jolene is not feeling well so Adam invites Rosco to join him on their winner’s getaway, while the rest of the group gather for family dinner with special guests, 2023 winners Steph and Gian.
Considering the couple are the biggest Block winners ever, they’re probably worth listening to – and everyone is trying to.
Except, well, Tayla, who instead fires 200 questions at them and doesn’t give them a chance to answer.
Safe to say, vibes are a little awkward. What better time for her to … FART?!
Farting is not very Japandi. Nine
Tomorrow night, it’s feud, after feud, after body corporate as everyone’s gripes come to a big, explosive head.
Uh oh. See you there.
