Harry and Meghan have no time for aircraft noise; spend small fortune soundproofing

Anyone who’s ever lived under a flight path (hi, Sydney Inner West) knows just how annoying it is to have to turn up the telly every time another plane flies overhead.

It turns out the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aren’t immune to this particular frustration, and have forked out a staggering $92,000 (£50,000) to soundproof their soon-to-be family home and block out noise from jets flying in and out of nearby Heathrow airport.

Harry and Meghan are said to have spent $5.5 million (£3m) updating and renovating Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before their much-anticipated move in, turning five flats into a family home.

The renovation will be covered by the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant, but it is thought Prince Harry and Meghan will foot the bill for the soundproofing.

According to The Sun around 14 flights pass within 1.6km of Frogmore Cottage every half hour, and the soundproofing Harry and Meghan have installed includes triple-glazed windows. (Gotta make sure that baby sleeps through the racket, hey.)

Frogmore Cottage is just 8km from Heathrow, and hasn’t been updated since the airport became the world’s busiest two-runway airport.

A source told The Mirror, “Since the 70’s just the staff on the Windsor estate have lived there.

“Aircraft noise has always been a growing problem. I doubt they’ll spend much time in the garden with all that aircraft noise.”

Thankfully, Meghan has installed a state-of-the-art home yoga studio at Frogmore Cottage to make up for any time lost outside.
