Lone Australian project makes it into the RIBA Awards 2016

Of the 30 buildings fighting it out this year in The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards to be announced at the end of 2016, only one Australian building, Peter Stutchbury’s Invisible House, is in the running to win. The RIBA awards committee will visit 30 buildings around the world to narrow down the list to 20, before deciding on six finalists. 

Stutchbury's design, located in the Blue Mountains just outside of Sydney, has already earned accolades within the Australian design community, being voted for  House of the Year at the Houses Awards and Architecture AU's Reader Choice Awards in 2014.

The project went on to win Australia's highest architectural prize, the Australian Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal, in 2015.

Stutchbury will be up against designs from the late Zaha Hadid and her Heydar Aliyev Centre Baku in Azerbaijan, and Farming Kindergarten in Bien Hoa City, Vietnam by Vo Trong Nghia Architects. Below are some of the stand-out projects from the 30 nominated.
