How to prep your deck for the cooler months

Autumn is an ideal time to take advantage of the last of the warm weather before the cool, wet months hit to ensure your outdoor timber deck  and furniture is protected from harsh winter weather. Timber coating specialist Sikkens recommends the following tips to revive and protect your deck:

What you need:
Hose or pressure washer
Stiff bristled brush
Detergent
Deck colour, such as Sikkens Cetol BLX-Pro ($51.15)

How to do it:
1. Clean the entire deck with a hose or pressure washer to remove all contaminants, dirt and grime

3. Rinse with a hose or pressure washer until soap suds are removed

4. When completely dry, apply a liberal coat of your desired colour, in the direction of the grain. For best results apply two coats in total, with two hours between each new coat.
