Furious homeowner fights against plans to put bus stop outside his front door

A furious homeowner in New Zealand is fighting it out with Auckland Transport (AT) over a bus stop being built outside his front door – so they’ve offered to put it in his driveway instead.

They say be careful what you wish for, and one homeowner in New Zealand is learning this lesson the hard way.

The Auckland resident is currently quarrelling with AT over the planned placement of a bus stop right outside the front door of his $1.15 million property in Karaka.

After discovering the plans to place a bus stop so close to his property three months ago, the anonymous resident - who has refused to be identified - has petitioned his local board, developers, Mayor Phil Goff and even members of Parliament in an attempt to prevent the bus stop being built.

Unfortunately for the resident, AT have dismissed his suggestion of moving the bus stop 200 metres away. Apparently this on account of it going against the planned spacing of bus stops.

As a 'compromise', AT have now agreed to move the bus stop into the man’s driveway instead. Unsurprisingly, this suggestion hasn’t really resolved anything.

For those who can hardly believe this would really happen, this isn’t the first time something like this has occurred with AT, as another homeowner from Hobonsville knows all too well.

“It is absurd for anyone to say having a public bus stop blocking your driveway is normal,” the furious homeowner told the NZ Herald.

“I understand the bus stop was part of the resource consent of a neighbouring development, not the developers of my house, so it is unfair that this has affected me.”

At least he’ll never have to wait in the rain for that bus ever again. What could be more convenient than stepping out of the house and straight on to the bus…right?
