Mike Baird buys cliffside home in North Curl Curl for $3.5m

Former NSW premier Mike Baird celebrated resuming his career in banking on Saturday, by splashing out on a glamorous $3.6 million clifftop home in North Curl Curl.

But not everyone was ready to pat the former politician on the back when news of his swanky house upgrade emerged. 

Despite the 2007 scale-back of post-Parliament pension entitlements and perks, Facebook irrupted with annoyed comments about the purchase — mostly, from millennials — some attributing the funds to a local casino, while others suggested they might switch banking providers. 

Although the majority of the comments were negative, some defended Baird's work ethic.

Baird and his wife, Kerryn, will move out of their rented North Curl Curl property around the corner into their new digs as he moves from a total premier’s salary of $377,780 to a multi-million-dollar National Australia Bank salary when he takes up his role as Chief Customer Officer.

The two-storey home follows an open-plan living and dining layout and takes in stunning ocean views. 

Baird bought the property off former Coca-Cola and Campbell Arnotts senior executive Gareth Edgecombe.

The purchase of this five-bedroom residence, complete with a parents' retreat, appears to be in-step with Baird's decision to quit politics in January to spend more time with his family.

Baird starts his new role in a week.
