We could blame Pinterest, or last year’s contestants on The Block, but lately we’ve had a hankering for statement light fittings.

So too Sean Nicol, a man from Edinburgh, UK, who recently bought a fancy-pants black spider ceiling lamp from Ebay for AUD$31.

When installed correctly, the light fitting hangs in a sort of trippy Daddy Longlegs formation, perfect for arachnid lovers and horror movie enthusiasts alike.

But the light Sean envisioned casting a soft glow in his home hit a snag when the electrician he employed to install it didn’t really understand the brief.
