Last week, world's collided when high fashion brand Balenciaga released a copycat of Ikea's $0.99 Frakta take-home bag with their own $2,850 version.

The electric blue tote will be available from US retailer Barneys and is described on their website as am "extra-large shopper tote bag… constructed of blue wrinkled, glazed leather."

The first responses came from Twitter users, who mocked the attention-grabbing tote:

The Today Show in the US were the first to get an official response from the Swedish affordable furniture giant — which was not as sassy as we've come to expect from Ikea's media team, who once designed a giant mock flat-pack bed for Kanye West after he said he wanted to collab with the brand.

"We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents," a spokesperson wrote. "Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!"

They've since rectified this with a hilarious response that's clearly aimed at  the Balenciaga copy by confirming their blue shopper as the original.

The agency used its fashion photographer, Anders Kylberg, to shoot the Frakta in studio in a similar style to Balenciaga.

It's "unexpected and brilliant," said ACNE Creative Director Johan Holgrem. "I like the flirt, and I thought, 'Why not flirt back?' And we did."
