IKEA launches wireless charging furniture range

Well, look who’s slowly making their way into the electronics game? Everyone's favourite Swedish homewares brand IKEA dropped their Wireless Charging collection in the US market this week and unsurprisingly, it’s ace.
The Jyssen range is all about banishing USB cables, featuring integrated wireless charging ports for mobile phones and tablets within bedside tables, lamps and desks. While it’s set to release in Australia around October, the design appears to be reasonably sleek, though it’ll be worth checking it out in person.
But here’s the part we’re actually excited for, the Jyssen wireless charger port can be installed into piece of your existing furniture. There’s no official word on the price yet, but in true IKEA style expect affordability. The wireless charger is marked for US$30.
We can see the DIY line being particularly appealing for wireless tablet charging stations on kitchen benchtops and iPad docks for bathroom dressers.
If you’re not in a position to splash out on new furnishings or hack into existing pieces, there’s the option for the easier, and somewhat better looking, Nordmarke wireless charging pads.
While you might be tempted to go hell-for-leather on jacking the house with charging ports and docks (tablets in the toilet anyone?), it won't be kind to your smart device's battery life.
The move towards electronics comes as part of IKEA’s new Home Smart initiative, which will see similar innovative home solutions roll out over the next 12 months. Stay tuned
