Ikea releases augment reality home design app

Always evolving Swedish furniture giant Ikea has today announced the launch of Ikea Place, an augmented reality app that lets you test drive furniture and homewares, and design rooms from your couch.

Ikea Place will be available on iOS 11 at the end of September.

Ikea has perfectly timed the announcement with Apple's new updates to its hardware and software, which included an updated ARKit augmented reality platform, which Ikea Place will run.

"The app automatically scales products—based on room dimensions—with 98 percent accuracy," Ikea said in a release on the app.

"The AR technology is so precise that you will be able to see the texture of the fabric, as well as how light and shadows are rendered on your furnishings."

Users will have around 2000 products to play with and will be able to save and send their digital rooms. 

The retailer has promised the app automatically scales products based on room dimensions with 98 percent accuracy.
