A $5000 renovating budget isn't going to get you a second-storey addition or an attic conversion, but it can certainly deliver some amazing transformations – as long as you know the areas to target and the kinds of products to buy. I've overhauled entire kitchens for under $1000, using my secret arsenal of nifty paints and products.

Pave the way
Got an unsightly concrete driveway? Paving paint is a cheap and highly effective way to modernise it. And as you can tint it to any colour, you have the added bonus of coordinating the colour with, say, your garage door or fence for a uniform look.
