"Bed sheets are a bit like your towels," UNSW's Professor McLaws told 9Coach. "If you're mostly healthy, once a week is fine."

"We shed a huge amount of skin cells when we sleep, which bed bugs love, and we can tend to sweat a lot in this Australian heat," Professor McLaws explained.

There are a few factors that come into how often you should wash your bedding, but when you do it, don't forget your pillows need a good wash too from time to time.
