'No nursing home for us': Man's genius hotel retirement hack goes viral

As the cost of retirement living skyrockets, a US man has revealed the clever way he plans to retire in luxury for a fraction of the price.

In a Facebook post which quickly went viral, Terry Robinson of Spring, Texas, detailed his plan to retire to the Holiday Inn hotel chain instead of a costly retirement facility.

According to the post, Mr Richardson found the average cost of a private retirement home would set him back $188 USD a day, whereas a night at the Holiday Inn comes in at approximately $59.23 a night.

That cost is with a combined long term stay and senior discount, and includes complimentary breakfast, a swimming pool, spa, gym and laundry facilities.

"They treat you like a customer, not a patient,” Mr Robinson said in the post.

Not only does the Holiday Inn boast a wide range of facilities, it also comes with the usual amenities you expect at a hotel, such as toiletries.

Mr Robinson added that for $5 of tips a day you can expect a higher level of service than you would get at a retirement facility.

Mr Robinson even cheekily points out that you’ll still get medical care in the event of an emergency, saying in the post that the Holiday Inn staff would, “call an ambulance . . . Or the undertaker”.

He also points out that, "If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life."

Plus if you get bored of the location you’ve set yourself up in, you can always head to another one. Holiday Inn has over 1000 locations globally, so you’re always ready for a quick getaway.

Mr Robinson says the plan has already been a big hit with his family, given that he’s able to offer the a mini-vacation every time they come to visit.

The Facebook post has racked up over 120,000 shares since February 7, with commenters loving the idea of retiring in style.
