Hayden and Sara cop negative feedback - again

“Everything we do is polarising,” said Sara of their Living and Dining space… and entire experience on The Block so far, really.

But hey, at least she’s still smiling about it!

The pair made some controversial choices this week, including a huge wall wrap of St Kilda and a door placement that nearly saw Sara and Hayden hit breaking point. Sara was convinced the door would lead to the pair being marked down. The pair- after a massive argument– agreed to let the feedback determine what their next move was.

Spoiler alert: When it came to judging, it wasn’t just the door that was the problem.

Their electric fireplace failed to impress. “This is a compromise for a fireplace,” Darren Palmer said, adding it had no integrity. “I think that fireplace for me is a metaphor for the whole room,” said Neale Whitaker. “It doesn’t feel real. It’s not welcoming me, it’s not drawing me in.”

"I'm really struggling to find energy and excitement in here," he added.

While they loved the armchairs and lounge, they felt they were too far away from the TV.

They also loved the colour palette and softness Sara had created but felt there was a disconnect in the Living and Dining room. Shaynna and Neale were concerned everything was focused around the TV. “It needs to be more than just that,” Neale said.

He felt there was no styling “surprise”, or as he put it: “bespoke luxury.”

Darren was concerned the dining table impeded the flow to the terrace, calling the layout “fundamentally flawed.”

And the controversial door? Well, they were more baffled about why the space had clearly been set up for a door but failed to house one. They called the idea of adding a door there completely pointless. Hearing this, Sara looked at Hayden knowingly.
