Ecocapsules: egg-shaped pod lets you live anywhere

This sleek, futuristic capsule, which resembles a spaceship, is about to transform the way campers and nature enthusiast experience the outdoors.

Built by Slovakian group Nice Architects, Ecocapsules, are totally self-sufficient and can be towed on a trailer or shipped to remote locations. 

Powered by 2.5-square-metre solar panels, a 750w retractable wind turbine, and a rainwater capture and storage system, the pods have also been designed like a mini apartment, measuring in at eight-square-metres of interior space, and including all the luxuries you'd expect from a conventional caravan. This translates to a bed, running water and the ability to cook hot food.

It can house two people for a year off-the-grid, however if you were to use the capsule for short camping trips, it could quickly convert into a luxury stay seeing as there's a kitchenette, dining area toilet and shower.

The design group hopes the low-energy house packed into a compact form, could become an affordable housing solution in urban areas. 

After six years in development, the product was unveiled at a recent design fair, picking up a decent amount of buzz.

They're now taking pre-orders, but will only produce 50 pieces in the first year at a cost of approximately $116,800. The Ecocapsule site claims these costs will be reduced by entering the pre-order queue for the following releases. There's also product development in the works, with weather prediction software and a wheeled chassis to be included in future versions.
