Disappointed judges hammer ‘arrogant’ Carla and Bianca’s room

Bianca and Carla are super competitive and straight shooters (pun intended). So far in the competition, they’ve managed to solve hassles relatively smoothly. A flooring drama was solved collaboratively with their team. A wonky feature wall, identified by Keith and Dan, was smoothed over. Their biggest problem has been when they tried to pull a swifty and get something delivered by crane that they weren’t allowed to, but a barrage of apologies got them out of that one too.

Their feedback so far has also been positive. The judges like their signature style and seemingly effortless ability to create high end luxury.

Their master ensuite scored second place…

Their bathroom won overwhelmingly good feedback – aside from one easily fixed feature.

Then Master Bedroom week hit… and everything stopped being quite so shiny and happy.

While the judges liked the rich layers of their grey palette, the signature side cabinets and the concealed TV/artwork, they didn’t like quite a few other elements.

In a shock twist, Neale Whitaker didn’t appreciate the bedside light – despite Jess telling the girls it was apparently one of his all-time favourites! He admitted he wanted to love the room but was struggling to find good reason to.

His main gripe was that the room was all about style over substance. “I don’t think these girls are thinking [about] how we actually live. … This doesn’t function!”

The judges agreed with Keith and Dan and didn’t like the wonky feature wall – suggesting they “tear it out and start again.” Shaynna also felt the room was too masculine. “Coming from two girls!” laughed Bianca in response.

The girls looked devastated. “That was an error – it was not arrogance,” Bianca said, her eyes misty. “That really hurt me, that arrogance line.”

However, while the effect wasn’t perfect and the feedback stung, the judges still very much believe in Bianca and Carla.

“I don’t want to disillusion them. I want them to keep thinking in this very fresh directional way,” Neale said. “But I do want them to spend more time thinking about functionality.”
