This disappearing sink works by sensing your hand movements

A new, state-of-the-art sink has been unveiled, which has the ability to function with a simple flick of the wrist.

In the video above, you can witness the incredible creation of Italian design studio Tipic for Offmat in action, a design which shows the world's first responsive kitchen controlled by the movement of a hand.

The 'smart' kitchen countertop is operated as if by a magic trick; a hand movement sees the countertop drop down to reveal a sink area and the tap turn on -- at the flick of a wrist. 

The new sink design could be a huge space-saver for small kitchens if it were to the hit the mass market, as the 'hidden' sink adds between 18 to 24 inches of extra work space to a counter-top when it isn't retracted. 

The responsive sink has been gaining increasing attention online since it was revealed this week on Instagram, with the video gaining over 166,000 views so far. However, the reaction from homeowners after seeing the sink in action has been mixed.

"I want this in our house," commented one person on the video, while another noted that it could make prepping meals and cleaning up even easier, "use the sink as a cutting board then just put it down to wash it," they said.

"Too much work to use a sink...it’s cool but not for me," said someone else, not as impressed with the motion sensor technology, while another person commented, "Looks great until it’s in a real working kitchen and there's food and gross cr*p stuck to the sides of it all lol."

In an observation that we can probably all relate to, one woman commenting on the video hilariously pointed out, "I think the sink would beat me after a few wines!"

Yet another reason to leave the washing up until the morning after, perhaps.
