Burnt on grime covering your stovetop is both tricky and annoying to clean. But it turns out much of the hard work can be done without endless scrubbing thanks to one cleaning hack.

Although it sounds easy, it's not the fastest method, because you'll need to wait overnight for the magic to happen.

TikTok user @aurikatariina shared her method for cleaning stovetops in a video which has since been viewed a whopping 2.9 million times.

The hack which she claims "will change your life" uses oven cleaner, cling wrap, a scrubbing sponge and a stove polish.

"Spray oven cleaner on the burnt surface, place cling film on top of it, wait 24 hours," Auri said in the clip, which you can watch above.

After waiting a day, Auri removed the plastic wrap to reveal the burnt bits had broken down into a gross brown liquid which is far easier to remove than caked on grime.

"The stains had melted off," she said.

Once the cling wrap has been removed Auri suggested scrubbing with a Steel Daddy but you could use a toothbrush or scrubbing brush. She then wiped the stovetop clean and added stove polish to the elements.

Another revealed a different use for oven cleaner, "Oven cleaner is awesome. I use it to get stains out of my bathtub."

It's just one of many cleaning methods using using plastic wrap doing the rounds on social media. A mum previously shared an oven cleaning method using the pantry staple on the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.

"I've been putting this job off for months... got a tip from Instagram to layer Glad Wrap on top of your cleaner so it doesn't dry out," the mum wrote on the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.

"So clever! Just used Easy-off Bam Spray Foam, Glad Wrap and left on for a good six hours. I removed all my racks as I will do them separately."

Once six hours has passed the mum removed the wrap and put it in the bin. She then used hot water dish detergent and a cloth to clean it out.

Another TikToker used the plastic wrap method to help clean her oven racks. In this hack the racks were placed on top of the wrap and sprayed with oven cleaner before another layer of wrap was added on top. This was left for half an hour before getting washed.

Cling film keeps the cleaning products moist so that they can continue to work on the stain over a longer period of time.
