Cats love playing with this super cheap household item

Cat toys can be an expensive investment, so this $2 discovery one pet owner shared to Facebook was a well-received surprise.

Forget toy mice, thousand dollar cat runs, and hilarious but probably dangerous laser pointers, it turns out our feline friends are happy to play with a very common (and cheap) household item: a rubber bath plug.

Revealing the surprising find in the Cool Cat Group on Facebook, one cat owner wrote, “I’ve spent hundreds of $$ on cat toys, but all he wants is the bath plug!”

Others quickly agreed, with one user even admitting they have to hide their plugs from prying paws.

“When we first moved to this home we bought a multi-pack of plugs with four sizes. Mabel immediately began taking them to play in the hall. We’ve had to replace that package of plugs once and have hidden the one we use.”

According to Purina, because cats are evolved to hunt food, they enjoy games or toys that encourage them to chase and pounce.

“Moving toys will allow them to carry out [hunting] behaviour and satisfy their needs. You’ll be able to see your pet’s ‘eye-stalk-chase-grab-bite-kill’ behaviour as they play!”

And the best thing about bath plugs moonlighting as cat toys (beside the cheap, cheap price)? They’re a lot less disgusting to clean up than dead rats!
