Bob Hawke and Blanche d'Alpuget sell longterm North Shore home for $14 million

Australia’s favourite beer-skolling former-Prime Minister Bob Hawke has sold his and wife Blanche d’Alpuget’s North Shore home for a reported $14 million.

Bob and Blanche have plans to downsize to a newly built apartment in Sydney’s CBD following the off market sale of their long-term Northbridge home, The Australian reports.

Bob and his then wife Hazel paid $1.23 million in 1991 for the three-bedroom house overlooking Sugarloaf Bay, seven months before Mr Hawke lost the leadership to Paul Keating.

That house was knocked down and replaced with a four-storey mansion, completed in 1993.

In 2013, Bob secured Willoughby Council approval to install a rooftop pergola complete with synthetic turf to double as a putting green.

A local buyer from the Northbridge area is believed to have bought Casa Hawke, after it was quietly shown with $15m hopes.

Domain reports the sale price remains undisclosed, but a source said the result was between $14 million and $15 million – around $6m below the suburb record of $21 million that was set in 2017 when 49 Coolawin Road sold.

Mr Hawke and Ms d’Alpuget will move into the One30 Hyde Park development where they bought an apartment off the plan in their downsizing bid.
