Incredibly tiny hand-made ceramics Instagram's latest obsession

There's something totally soothing and hypnotic about watching clay spin on a pottery wheel. Masters of the craft tend to make it look super easy too, which is probably why many have short pottery courses on their list of hobbies to try.

But, if you've ever tried to use a wheel, you'll know it's anything but effortless. 

Jon Almeda, is one of those makers who shape ceramics with ease. His skills are made even more impressive by the miniature scale of his beautiful ceramic work.

Despite starting his career with full-sized pottery pieces, Almeda has become an Instagram sensation for his tiny hand-thrown ceramics which measure to around two-and-a-half centimetre in height.

Almeda’s pieces are completely perfect copies of larger versions down to the intricate paint and pattern detailing, but are sometimes smaller than a single raspberry or a box of matches. 

Working from a custom-designed motorised-curio wheel to help him achieve precise results (often posting the process to his feed from locations around the US), it's easy to see why the Tacoma, Washington, local has 306k followers on Instagram. Take a look at his incredible work below.
