Aldi release their first designer-look couch in chic new furniture collection

Australians have been spoiled for choice in the budget home decor arena, with big retailers like Kmart, Target, IKEA, Big W, Aldi, TK.Maxx and even The Reject Shop all vying for our hard-earned cash with affordable, stylish homewares. Today, Aldi Special Buys kicks things up a notch with furniture items sure to hit instant cult status.

Each Wednesday and Saturday Aldi Special Buys can cause havoc with shoppers desperate to score the hottest items, as there is usually limited stock. The chic grey rocker chair, for example, sold out across Australia and got a second run due to popular demand.

Today, shoppers will be lining up for a chance to nab two high-end style, leather-look pieces: Aldi’s first couch, and a swivel armchair.

The two seater couch is just $249, and takes its cues from high end designers. A similar option at Freedom costs $2199, as well as West Elm's loveseat at $2499 (although there is a difference in size and material).

The swivel armchair retails at $149, and would work well in an office or as an accent chair.

There are other industrial-style pieces catching the eye of bargain hunters: like a butler’s tray table ($19.99), and timber furniture including a console table ($69.99), entertainment unit ($129) and a lift-up coffee table ($59.99).

However, the couch isn't the only item similar to a few of the pieces from popular home retailer West Elm’s collection.

Earlier this year, Aldi was in hot water over claims that they produced copycats of Australian designer Mark Tuckey’s iconic wooden stool.

As usual, Aldi is also catering to parents with some good-looking baby gear, especially this stroller ($129) and wooden high chair ($79.99).
